It's late in the evening. Indian Health Council is closed. You don't feel well. What should you do? Go to the emergency room where you may linger for hours waiting to be seen? Or call our after-hours advice nurse for immediate assistance?

The choice is obvious. Unless you have a life-threatening emergency, call 760.749.1410 and press option 1. You'll be instantly connected with a skilled and caring triage nurse.

• The nurse will speak with you at length to determine the best way to handle your condition.
• If necessary, the nurse will contact our IHC physician on call.
• Your call will be tracked and faxed to our Medical Department, so we can follow up with you on the following workday to make sure you're OK. If required, we may also schedule an appointment for that day.

"Our after-hours service has an excellent track record of helping people in all sorts of non-emergency medical situations,"says IHC Medical Director Dan Calac, MD. "This frees up emergency rooms and urgent care centers for true emergencies."

Should you require emergency attention, you must notify the clinic within 72 hours of your visit.
