Excerpt from IHS.gov: During his visit to the California Area last week, IHS Director Mark Cruz joined Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and leaders of Indian Health Council, Inc. to recognize their Community Health Aide Program (CHAP) Tribal Planning and Implementation Grant awards announced September 16. Cherokee Nation received $500,000, and Indian Health Council, Inc. received $624,267 to support the planning and implementation of CHAP in their communities.

The awards are part of $2.3 million in Trump administration funding awarded to four Tribes and Tribal organizations over three years to support CHAP expansion in the contiguous 48 states. The funding will help expand access to community-based primary, behavioral, and oral health services while strengthening the Tribal health workforce and supporting programs tailored to the needs of individual communities.
